With the success of their home décor shop in Cedarburg, mother and daughter duo Becky Floyd and Emily Wellskopf decided to expand and open a second location.
The two held a grand opening in July for the Delafield location of Birchwood Wells at 719 Genesee St.
“One of our employees lives in Brookfield,” said Wellskopf, Floyd’s daughter. “She told us of Delafield last Christmas. The downtown is so quaint and inviting.”
The Cedarburg location opened in November 2014.
“We have locally handcrafted furniture from sofa tables to coffee tables to dining tables,” Wellskopf said. “Our goal really is to give the smaller women-owned companies a place to sell their goods. Our goal is also to get as much local goods … as possible.”
They will also sell hand-picked vintage pieces.
“We go all over Wisconsin, Minnesota and find pieces ourselves that sometimes need a little bit of love,” Wellskopf said. “We fix them up a little bit, and then we mix them with our more modern décor.”
The Cedarburg store’s popularity grew during the pandemic, Wellskopf noted.
“We have been so busy,” Wellskopf said. “People have been spending so much more time in their homes that I think they wanted to make them feel very personal, comfortable and cozy.”
Wellskopf said her family’s passion for creating and decorating items has been passed down from generation to generation.
“All of us, in our own unique ways, have ways that we love to create,” Wellskopf said. “Mine is more that I love the finishing details, the small displays and the decorating. … We all have a creative gene, and we really enjoy using our hands and creating.”
